This is on Hemmings. A 1990 Miata made to look like a Z3, but then they put a GMC 3.1L V6 in it.

This is the writing:

This thing has been floating around the classifieds for a long time now. I think it even made Graverobbers NPCP once.

Like a bad penny..

Ah, I see that you did now. My bad. I usually don’t click through posts with no photos or description so I passed it by.

At that price I imagine it will go unsold forever.

These conversions made some sense* in the ‘90s and early ‘00s, when Z3s were still worth decent money. Now, I don’t really get the point.

*Even then, you’re driving a bastardized Miata. You’ll look like loser if you try to pass it off as a real BMW, and if you don’t try to do that, then why the hell wouldn’t you just leave it as a Miata?

Thats what I thought at first. It must have been done right when the Z3 first came out and was desirable, but I didn’t think it was ever desirable enough to fake. And at that price now you could by a nice Z3 and a nice Miata.

I remember there were a couple of vendors that made Miata-to-Z3 conversion kits at one point, they were relatively popular. The re-engining job on this goes a bit further than most, though.

I just recently started looking at the classifieds on there, they have some very interesting items.

The 3.1 isn't very reliable unless you're comfortable changing out the lower intake manifold gasket every few years.

Lots of Mark V Continentals. Which is my favorite bit.

That is what I thought too, still slightly better than a 2.8 though. I don’t know why people even bother with those when they could have a 4.3 or newer 3.4 or 3.8 from the Camaros.
